Bowei. Wang: Ecological Guidelines for Land Use and Management

Humans, knowingly or unknowingly has been causing the largest change in land cover globally. With population increasing around the world, the amount of land being transformed to shelter, feed and provide for us is also increasing. This change of land-use directly impacts the ability of our planet to continually provide for us in the generations to come. In this article, the author summarized the guidelines and principles established by the Ecological Society of America to help make better decision toward future change in land use while sustaining the function and structure of the ecosystem. This article made me see the ways we are indirectly shaping the global ecosystem to fulfill our daily needs, as consumers and landscape architects it is important for us to make decisions on land-use with these principles and guidelines to ensure a sustainable ecosystem for the future.
