Maps, Knowledge, & Power

The opening excerpt to this article set the mood for the intensity of its context. Expressing maps as a powerful tool for any medium. Long since in history maps have been used as a way to calibrate strategies for conquerors to creating visions of a new world. The article brings up that maps have a way of carrying many levels of information. Panofsky’s formulation iconology describes maps of having symbolic levels of information that can be conceived as messages or representations. This article shows maps as having multiple uses in political and social environments.
