In this article, Feng Shui is used as a precedent for settlement patterns for ancient Native American Indian dwellings. These two concepts from very different cultures come together to help inform on site arrangement against the environment. Both ideas form principles for site planning in relationship to elements such as, hydrology, typography, and wind. This article shows comparisons to ancient Chinese settlements and Native American settlements and their similarities in site planning. Native American settlements were commonly situated against canyons, which defended them against winds and enemies, and water and food being easily accessible and abundant. Many old traditions and skills that were once instrumental to survival are now lost and disconnected from our environment. We must find some way to reconnect and learn from our countries ancestors.
