This article is about protecting and regulating the environment of Saudi Arabia. It was interesting to see an international take on land management, particularly in the Middle East. The article makes a point to discuss how land management can not be without an administration, and how to combine a legislation with cultural values and practices of Islamic belief. The Islamic faith believes that God is the Almighty Creator of every component of nature. Those believing in this feel that it is their duty to please God by protecting and conserving nature (his creation). They also believe that God created the laws of nature.
Whether we believe this all to be true or not, we as landscape architects should realize that we are the only ones able to physically protect natures. Humans in general are the only animal able to protect nature. We may be respecting God by doing so but respecting nature because it provides many resources.

Not only does this article provide guidelines for managing the environment in Saudi Arabia, it also applies to how every Muslim should behave anywhere in the world. Because these guidelines were made by their God, they should follow them to the utmost detail. But we as landscape architects can glean from this article that different cultures hold their own beliefs about the interaction between man and nature and we should become conscious and observant of how our decisions impact those cultures.
