Smith.Sarah_Feng-shui as Clue

When I think of feng-shui my mind jumps to how a room is oriented to satisfy the occupier. Is there a steady or peaceful flow in the area, or how does that person feel in the room?

This article begins to compare feng-shui to how Prehistoric American settlements were laid out on the landscape. Prehistoric American settlements tended to favor horizontal axises with respect to views of mountain ranges in the distance. By recognizing this we can see that Prehistoric American people "listened" to the landscape and that it can be compared to feng-shui, an old Chinese method of choosing a site.

It amazes me that cultures from different times and places draw the same conclusions about how the lay of their environment should be set up. Many have thought that land conservation is simply a new idea. Low and behold we are seeing testiment that this has been in practice for almost four thousand years now ifnot longer. It makes since. Ancient people did not have the mass engineering skills which we have today to manipulate the land for our bidding. Why would they hunt, plant, or live within areas ill suited for them?
