Fresina, Frances. “On Values” Revisited: A Judeo Christian Theology of Man and Nature

Nancy Watkins Denig’s article focuses on countering Ian Mcharg’s theory that the values of Judeo Christianity and other religions has taught the Western man to take part in environmental exploitation and to exhibit domination over nature. Denig explains that no one religion or culture is responsible for exploiting nature. She then brings up the Christian principle of being “stewards” of the earth. The bible teaches that human beings should care for the earth. As landscape architects, this principle greatly effects how we should treat the earth in ways that preserve nature but also where man can coexist.
