The maps, Knowledge, and power

Throughout past, maps have been benefited to every generation for different uses. In our generation, computer, commonly used tool for gathering information, is substitution to the map. The map making skill is now much more accurate and precise than the past. The maps were used for other reasons such as military strategy, or propaganda of imperial power, and social gap. Moreover, it represents political boundary as well as estate gap in the past European geography. Iconology of map was a tool such as computer and medium which advertise data and information. Deliberate falsification of map content was prevalent in political situations and imperial countries as a security reason which is applied to today. Also, maps were mostly generated for powerful group rather than low class. That is why the old iconological map illustrates political issues and created gap in between classes. Likely the direction and movement of map making method is similar but hierarchy of it is going different direction. Maps should address problematic factors and be anticipating information for our generation which faces many environment issues. Also maps should be not silence tool as compared to the old one but revealing the undisclosed information on map probably helps generate much useful information.
