McGuire, Amy. Landscape Planning :Contents and Procedures

In Hans Kiemstept's "Landscape Planning," it is emphasized from the beginning that landscape planning is a tool for preservation and that care should be taken in what is important. Planning treats the landscape as a system of habitats and carried out at different scales, such as state, regional, and community. It also provides the plan of action for other contributers and agencies that are involved in nature protection and management.

As Landscape Architects we have a certain responsibility to understand this and to plan with foresight. In the planning process we gather inventory and carefully analyze the existing qualities and the impacts of these potentials while creating objectives and guidelines for development. "Landscape Planning" looks at the effects not just on the environment, but on the community and local government as well. Kiemstept gives us a procedure for planning in the landscape but also insight into what needs to be considered while doing so.
