Fresina, Frances. A Framework for Theory Applicable to the Education of Landscape Architects

In the article “A Framework for Theory Applicable to the Education of Landscape Architects (and Other Environmental Design Professional” Carl Steinitz discusses the framework for theory and how it can be applied to the design process. He states that the definition of theory needs to be broadened so that it will be applicable for students. Steinitz gives six levels that make up the framework theory: 1, representation models. 2, Process models. 3, Evaluation models. 4, Change models. 5, Impact models and 6, Decision models.

In his article, Stieinitz perfectly lists the easy to follow framework for a design problem. These steps can be applied to different sorts of projects. It also works well over time. He also states that the steps work in reverse order often to the advantage of the designer. What is nice about this framework is that Stienitz recognizes the fact that it will change and can be manipulative to fit the problem. Theory is subject to change.
