Denig's main focus in the article is to combat Iam McHarg's negative viewpoint on Western man's role and theology of man and nature. McHarg shows man as anthropocentric and a dominant force over nature. He uses the Renaissance and Baroque styles as examples of this idea. Denig believes that if looked over again, the Bible cannot be blamed for such ideals. Before the Bible was created, deforestation practices were taking place in china and agricultural practices in Egypt. She also points out that God created man as stewards of the land and have a choice as to manage the land with care or not to. There is a moral framework behind man's choices.
The Bible, or any other cultural text is used as a book of guidelines for man. We have the choice whether or not to follow these guidelines. As Landscape Architect's we have a responsibility to respect and co exist with nature, and based on our morals and experiences, we may or may not.

It's interesting to learn different perspectives of other cultures how they interpret the landscape because as landscape architects we should be aware of these customs in order to avoid insulting someone's belief. We must respect everyone's ideals of the landscape.
